  • Depiction:

The KAIKA series is an attempt to depict liberation from the fixed notions of roles and beauty embedded in the symbolic motifs of bijin-ga (paintings of beautiful women)—flowers and women—while employing these very motifs.

Since ancient times, women have been likened to "flowers," but their beauty has always been defined by someone else's gaze. The flowers that appear in this series are not given distinct colors or forms.

Their figures, left only with outlines, possess an anonymity while embodying the beauty of simply being alive.

Like flowers that bloom knowing they are destined to wither, the figure burning through the time of life to blossom overlays human dignity and radiance.

KAIKA is a quiet declaration that beauty is not artifice, but the very essence of life itself, undefined.
