Scarlet Dandelion Futon

It may be undeniable that the person I am today is a continuation of who I was yesterday.
Yet, because I pass through the time of sleep—where consciousness disappears and dreams unfold like another world—I sometimes wonder whether the self before sleeping and the self upon waking are truly the same.

If sleep can be seen as a small death, then perhaps each time I awaken, I am being born anew.
This painting is an ode to the comfort, strangeness, and irresistibility we feel in sleep.
