Depiction:
This work takes sleep—a universal act—as its theme.
Birds flying in the sky, whales swimming in the sea, and we humans alike all share the need to sleep.
The painting embodies the image of a “mass” seen in the dream of the whale depicted at the bottom of the canvas. Within this cluster, reminiscent of wool or clouds, various animals rest peacefully in slumber.
To portray the dream, I incorporated elements resembling manga-style speech bubbles, constructing a space that drifts back and forth between reality and dream.
