In Hsieh Yi-Ting’s works, the recurring black human figure is a manifestation of another self. It emerges from her experience of motherhood—an identity born out of the body and mind that are at once exhausted by childcare yet deeply fulfilled. The ordinary moments of daily life become her source of inspiration: the stuffed animals by her child’s bedside, always in the shape of animals; the ritual-like nightly reading of bedtime stories; the weekend routine of watching her children climb up and down the slide. Through these scenes, she seeks to create sweet and dreamlike moments, making each work an entrance that invites viewers back to a state closely resembling childhood.
