Cloud Gallery: Promoting Asian Art and Showcasing Outstanding Global Artists — Rooted in Taiwan, Gazing Toward the World
Established in 1997, Cloud Gallery is committed to promoting Asian art and presenting outstanding artists from around the world. Located on Mingshui Road in the rezoned Dazhi district of Taipei, the gallery was the first to be founded in what is now recognized as the Taipei Art District. Over the past three decades, we have cultivated a distinctive curatorial identity by representing seminal works of iconic Taiwanese artists and significant figures in contemporary Chinese art. By engaging deeply with the trajectory of Asian art history, we have developed a viewpoint that uses Taiwan as a cultural compass to explore the broader landscape of global art.
In response to the evolving dynamics of contemporary art—marked by the decline of grand narratives and the rise of philosophical inquiry and pluralism—we established an interdisciplinary space adjacent to the original gallery in 2012. This space regularly hosts forums and serves as a platform for emerging contemporary artists to experiment with diverse media and forms. Through these exhibitions and cross-sector collaborations, we seek to foster dialogue, encourage innovation, and open up new possibilities for artistic development.
We believe that art promotion is a long-term endeavor that values quality over quantity. Each year, we thoughtfully curate 8 to 10 in-house exhibitions and actively participate in 4 to 6 major art fairs both in Taiwan and abroad, supporting our artists in reaching an international audience. To further elevate the visibility of Taiwanese contemporary art, we also initiate artist exchange programs and collaborative exhibitions with galleries, academic institutions, and corporate entities at home and abroad. These alliances, whether within or across industries, offer innovative models of artistic promotion and help embed art more deeply within local contexts.
As geopolitical shifts continue to reshape Asia—and as China’s rise reconfigures the region’s cultural terrain—Taiwan’s art scene has experienced both its peaks and its valleys. We believe that what remains after the passing of trends will be what endures. Artistic depth ultimately reasserts its value in the market, and it is the gallery’s mission to stay ahead of the curve—selecting works of lasting resonance that will be affirmed by art history long after the tides have receded.
Vision is vital to the longevity of an art institution. At Cloud Gallery, we maintain a meta-perspective informed by the global art discourse. We represent contemporary artists with strong and singular voices, and for each artist we work with, we engage in curatorial planning, critical research, forums, publications, and interview-based documentary production. These efforts aim to record their creative journeys and provide a valuable archive for future study.
Taiwan’s contemporary art draws from the deep well of Chinese cultural heritage, and as an island nation, we position ourselves at a unique vantage point to observe the evolution of global culture. Every exhibition we present reflects a cultivated aesthetic sensibility. Above all, we remain steadfast in our mission: to champion the finest artworks and to share them with the world.
