Bug 2 Gallery was founded in 2022 in Xinying, Tainan, by Dutch artist Pascal van der Graaf (Yang Wen-Chih) and Arwen Yang, curator and Ph.D. from Peking University. The gallery is dedicated to presenting contemporary art from the Netherlands and Taiwan, with a particular focus on how painting continues to evolve across formal, cultural, and spiritual dimensions.
Since its founding, Bug 2 Gallery has actively participated in international art fairs such as Kiaf SEOUL and Art Taipei, and has collaborated with museums and academic institutions. The gallery represents and exhibits artists whose practices span canvas folding, stretcher construction, abstraction, reverse weaving, illusionistic painting, and plein-air landscapes—fostering cross-cultural dialogues and highlighting the breadth and depth of contemporary art.
At Art Taipei 2025, Bug 2 Gallery presents six artists from the Netherlands:
● Pascal van der Graaf: Blossom series, folded canvases that visualize spiritual energy through origami structures and harmonious colors.
● Jan Maarten Voskuil: The Origin of Characters, inspired by the generative logic of Chinese writing, alongside new Cuble circular works.
● Jos van Merendonk: since the 1980s, has focused on the green brushstroke as a symbol, turning limitation into infinite variation.
● Lieven Hendriks: illusionistic paintings of hyper-precision, destabilizing the boundary between reality and fiction.
● Mari Stoel: plein-air landscapes capturing atmosphere through vigorous brushwork oscillating between figuration and abstraction.
● Jim Harris: rooted in intuition and observation, his paintings convey sensory experiences of light, climate, and landscape.
Through these six artists, Bug 2 Gallery showcases the diverse facets of Dutch contemporary painting, while envisioning the future of art through a cross-cultural perspective.
