Depiction:
Hyeji Choi is an artist who tells the story of life and its vibrancy with a particularly unusual medium, cement. Her work captures moments of our lives with vivid colors and matières that seem to have been created by a child using clay. The artist, who records everything as if it were the feeling of a day viewed through a child's eyes, creates thematic vision by looking at life as the continuation of constant change.
In Choi's work, she paints modern people living their daily lives. The people and the impression of themselves to the artist are what she saw when traveling to cities around the world. Inlcuding New York, Busan, India, and Vietnam, her body of work is represented by the title of "LIFE". Painted with material of cement, her work allows anyone who sees it to reflect their own lives. Although cement in some way has cold properties, it is a medium of potency and vitality that supports the artist’s perspective.
