The Age of Exploration fueled globalization and shaped the current world order. The exchange and integration of animals and plants gave rise to diverse species. This work, using meticulous pen-and-tip techniques, emulates ancient map models and religious paintings, incorporating contemporary elements. Through the lens of the Age of Exploration, this work explores local memories, exploring urban development and postcolonial phenomena, and traversing the past and present through the history of the Age of Exploration.
Maps symbolize an era, the product of human exploration, recording, and even division of the world. They embody the advancement of civilization and the desire for power, and serve as blueprints for constructing an ideal world. The "Paradise" series, begun in 2012, draws on travelogues, maps, and other documents from the time by Western travelers, explorers, and missionaries, imagining the past of the East through their experiences. In the postcolonial era, this work traces back to the colonial beginnings of the Age of Exploration. By exploring the traces of past journeys, this work allows us to engage in dialogue with past times, looking back to the past and questioning the future.
