In the work, titled "Sunrise," the artist uses oil paint on wood to create an almost breathable atmosphere. The wood, as a medium, possesses a subtle warmth and roughness, which complements the transparent, layered application of oil paint, imbuing the painting with a restrained, profound luster. This interplay of textures evokes the sensation of sunlight filtering through the treetops and gently flowing through the moist air. In the composition, the intertwined roots of the trees on either side, like dancing arms, draw the eye toward the central water. This spatial arrangement evokes the "white space" of Chinese landscape painting, preserving a tranquil core amidst the tangled branches and vines. The central halo, like the dawn's first rays, permeates the vegetation, resembling both natural light and a revelation from deep within. A close examination of the water reveals that the artist has not merely simulated reflections with paint, but rather, through layers of shading and delicate brushstrokes, creates a subtle shimmer between the black and blue. This technique imbues the reflection with a hazy and uncertain quality, both real and illusory, suggesting the flow of time and the multiplicity of space. The choice of color is profoundly poetic: the warm golden and orange halo contrasts with the calm blue-gray below, evoking the atmosphere of the awakening world at dawn. This contrast is not only inspired by nature but also metaphorically represents the transition between life and death—the receding of darkness and the birth of light.
