Yuma Kishi is a Japanese contemporary artist who uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create data-driven digital works and sculptures.
Born in 1993. Graduated from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University; completed a master’s degree at the Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo (Department of Electrical Engineering), and another master’s degree at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts (Department of Intermedia Art). Reinterpreting AI as “Alien Intelligence,” the artist explores the concept of an “alien subjectivity” that emerges from the symbiotic relationship between humans and AI. Collaborating with in-house–developed AI systems, they produce paintings, sculptures, and installations. Since 2023, nearly all works have been curated by the AI model “MaryGPT.” Notable solo exhibitions include “Oracle Womb” (2025, √K Contemporary) and “The Frankenstein Papers” (2023, DIESEL ART GALLERY). Group exhibitions include “DXP2” (2024, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa) and “Beast (Chapter 2 / BEAUTIFUL DAYDREAM)” (2024, Maruka Building). The artist is also the author of “Michi tono sozo” (2025, Seibundo Shinkosha). Beyond the art world, collaborative, research-based projects include work with the fashion brand HATRA, providing artwork for bands such as RADWIMPS and King Gnu, and directing video for musician Keiichiro Shibuya’s “Android Opera.” These interdisciplinary endeavors with various artists and companies continue to garner significant attention. Awards include selection as a finalist for the CAF Award 2023 and recognition in the ATAMI ART GRANT 2022.
