ZHENG Yueh-Mei graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Chinese Culture University and is now a Distinguished Professor at Feng Chia University’s College of Architecture. She has also taught at Tunghai University, Finlandia University in the U.S., and the Wright Institute of Architecture and Art.
During her years in the U.S., she served as a board member of the National Association of Women Artists and as president of the National Young Women Artists Association. Returning to Taiwan, she received the Ministry of Education’s National Award for Contribution to Arts Education and the National Outstanding General Education Teacher Award. In 2024, her Taichung MRT public artwork Still Water, which combines AR technology with ink aesthetics, won the Bronze A’Design Award in Italy.
ZHENG works across Eastern and Western art traditions, integrating technology with ink painting. Her art was featured in 100 Artists of the Midwest (2012), and she has held over 30 solo exhibitions in cities including New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Paris, Lyon, Kyoto, Beijing, and Taipei, along with nine published monographs.
Her ink practice has developed in diverse directions, reflecting her deep experience in both Eastern and Western painting. Often beginning with reflections on nature, life, environment, and cross-cultural encounters, she explores the possibilities of imagination and expression. Through abstraction, line, and ink wash, she constructs landscapes and floral motifs that metaphorically reflect the tensions and coexistence of civilizations. Her art creates poetic spaces where Eastern and Western traditions meet, offering both a personal meditation and a broader dialogue on culture.
