When facing the canvas, Yu-Kai Chen engages his emotions, creating with spontaneity and intuition. His free-flowing brushstrokes reflect personal life experiences. The waves and starfish in his paintings embody the non-human forces he sensed while surfing—riding the waves as a gift from the sea and the wind. The flourishing plants signify the overwhelming vitality encountered during mountain hikes, while lightning represents an uncontrollable, fleeting moment. The canvas, pigments, textures, and gestures become tangible expressions of memory. Through these elements, Chen unfolds a non-human narrative, inviting viewers to explore and interpret freely.
