Yineng Yan's paintings draw inspiration from natural elements such as the sea, fire, and rock. Through the layering and smearing of thick pigments, he transforms the energy and order of nature. Fire and water, fluidity and solidification, creation and destruction—within his compositions, these forces both oppose and coexist, forming an indomitable sense of power.
The artist contemplates time and existence through a “geological” lens. Layers of colour in his work accumulate slowly, like sedimentary strata, symbolising both nature's memory and the limitations of humanity's attempts to control and resist it. The churning forms within his compositions appear as microcosms of life's birth and demise, revealing tension between destruction and rebirth. With brushstrokes that seem almost ablaze, Yen depicts the poetic endless cycle of nature, conveying the coexisting power of eternity and transience.
