ROTTEVEEL VERMEER is a Dutch artist duo formed in 2021 by Jochem Rotteveel and Thomas Vermeer, united by a shared passion for color.
Coming from contemporary art and fashion backgrounds, they naturally merge their disciplines using vinyl foil, and create on dibond panel—blending painting and sculpture to explore the boundaries of color, material, and space. By folding flat materials to create volume, they blur the line between two- and three-dimensional space. Instead of physical color blending, they achieve optical effects through light and viewer perception. Their site-specific wall works are dismantled after each show, questioning the need for permanence in art and emphasizing the value of the moment of seeing.
Jochem Rotteveel was born in 1976 in The Hague, now based in Rotterdam. He received an MFA from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. Thomas Vermeer was born in 1984 in Zwolle, now based in Amsterdam. He graduated from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute.
