M. Irfan (b. 1972, in Bukittinggi, Sumatra, Indonesia) currently lives and works in Yogyakarta. He studied metal craft at the Indonesia Institute of Arts (ISI Yogyakarta) and was once a founding member of Kelompok Seni Rupa Jendela (Jendela Art Group), known for their experimental approach to art. Irfan's recent series of works was created during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when many people were isolated from both their social circles and the natural environments around them. The artist describes his painting technique in this series as "doodling," a method that originated from the limitations of not being able to access traditional art materials during the pandemic. This situation led him to develop a drawing style using a ballpoint pen-like technique, where he applied acrylic paint to canvas in extremely fine and precise lines.
