Kim Hyousun(B.1970)
Kim Hyosun seeks to express ‘Juxtaposition Hybrid’, the fundamental concept of the moon jar. Unlike jars that are generally made all at once, the top and bottom, i.e. a and b, meet to create c, the finished product. Therefore, the original properties of a and b can be observed, and unpredictable phenomena occur until c, the complete body, is reached. Therefore, in expressing this concept as a phenomenon, the author focuses on the phenomenon (Phenomenon) of c, the moon jar, by revealing the essential properties of a and b as they are. This is a position that accepts all the variables that arise in the relationship between the phenomena that occur during the production process and the characteristics of the material until it becomes a finished product. In particular, it focuses on the risks created in the phenomenon, takes these risks, and expresses them in visual language.‘‘Flowing Moon Jar’ is a juxtaposition hybrid of materials with different properties, expressing the encounter relationship between glass and earth and a glaze that can highlight the properties of the two materials. In other words, glass and earth meet to create a new material, and in order to maximize the changes in properties that occur within it, a glaze with a low melting point is used to accept the risk of the result when the melting point is raised. This is to express the beauty that comes from the relationship between materials and the dialogue between materials by revealing the characteristics of each material, that is, glass, earth, and glaze. The encounter between these materials is a narrative about beauty that has purpose without purpose, and at the same time, it explores the value of another beauty by expressing the properties of materials as they are in visual language.
