Jason SHIH, born in 1972 in Changhua, Taiwan, is a sculptor and public artist currently based in Taoyuan. He began specializing in metal sculpture in 1991 while studying at the Taipei National University of the Arts. He later earned his MFA from the School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology, and worked as an assistant to renowned metal sculptor Albert Paley. In 2015, he received a Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the China Academy of Art.
Shih’s work draws on a wide range of influences—from contemporary dance choreographer Pina Bausch to fashion designer Alexander McQueen—reflecting his deep interest in movement, space, and contemporary expression. Inspired by Futurism and Constructivism, his sculptures capture fleeting moments of motion through static forms, expressing the elegance and restraint of natural forces.
With a keen sensitivity to everyday life, Shih uses poetic forms to tell personal stories. For him, art is a dialogue with lived experience—a way to interpret and share his perception of the world.
