Hsu Hui-Hsuan
Born in 1982 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Hsu Hui-Hsuan’s artistic practice revolves around the act of “seeing” — particularly the perception of speed and stillness within the flow of everyday time. Her work explores the interrelations between digital apparatuses, materiality, perception, and temporality.
After years of working primarily with moving images, Hsu has in recent years shifted her focus toward painting. Through intricate yet delicate abstract forms, she folds layers of lived experience onto the canvas. Her intuitive brushwork and repeated layering evoke resonances between memory and imagery.
Her paintings unfold as a gentle yet distant gaze, navigating between rationality and emotion, the digital and the handmade — softly murmuring moments and stories refracted through time.
