Born in 1958 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, LIU De-Lang graduated from Taiwan Provincial Hsinchu Teachers College (now National Tsing Hua University) with a degree in Fine Arts. While rooted in Western classical painting traditions, Liu De-Lang has developed a distinctive aesthetic vocabulary through years of observation and contemplation. Focusing on Taiwan's natural landscapes, he has spent years immersing himself in the mountains and forests, meticulously capturing the colors, temperatures, humidity, and even the scent of soil and touch of wind that characterize this land through different seasons. This profound contemplation of the land has enabled him to transform Taiwan's unique geographical features into a moving artistic language. Under his brush, every mountain ridge and forest grove embodies his deepest tribute to this land.
Renowned poet Hsi Mu-Jung(b.1943) describes his work: "Standing before Liu De-Lang's paintings, one can sense his profound understanding of Taiwan's mountains—where the perseverance and sharpness of rocks harmonize with the softness and allure of mountain mists, revealing both the untamed wildness and elegant grace of life on this island!"
