Daisuke Teshima integrates traditional Japanese woodcarving techniques into contemporary art, using camphor wood combined with colored pencils and acrylic paint to depict figures imbued with warmth and humor. The series presented in this exhibition centers on combinations of apples, flowers, skulls, and human figures—symbols of the intersection between life and death within the cycle of existence, as well as the contradictions and tensions it entails. His characters appear calm yet subtly humorous, as if quietly “reflecting against the wall,” moving between playfulness and contemplation, and offering viewers a gateway for emotional projection and inner dialogue.
