Most of HUNG Chien-Hui's artworks are ink on silk. Without excessive color and object, but with simple elements and composition, her works focus on the overall atmosphere and give off a unique temperament. The viewer is fascinated by the subtle changes in hue on every inch of the compositions; she expresses the wander between reality and illusion by drawing transformed figures, plants and individual objects, building a mentally intimate space to rest. The figures in her works also show a state of extreme relaxation or even emptiness. The viewer can feel peace inside and wander to a lonely quiet place when viewing her works.
HUNG Chien-Hui thinks that her works are outputs of reviewing her life. She likes to take her camera with her and walk around, drawing down human's dynamics. Artistic interpretation of people and life are the important parts of her creation. As a result, HUNG Chien-Hui uses ink on silk to present the nature lines of sketch. Her solo exhibition "The Reverie" was the first presentation after she reinterpreted the role of the medium. Different from her delicate and meticulous creations in the past, her recent works are composed by the lines that have a sense of speed.
"When I am working, I am actually creating a mental space on the paper, running away from the trivia of life temporarily. I get lots of mental comfort when drawing." HUNG Chien-Hui said. Creating is a kind of emotional expression and method of healing for her. She hopes that her viewers can resonate with her or imagine a place to rest in their own way.
Digital technology is gradually taking over the modern art environment. However, as an art creator birthed in 90's, HUNG Chien-Hui uses simple media to present the observation of self or external environment like a modern prose. Her obsession with photography references her admiration of the colors of film camera. Maybe that is why HUNG Chien-Hui's artworks possess a calm and old-school characteristic. It is a kind of living hard, a kind of finding balance in life. There is no magnificence of grand narrative, but individual insight. It is charming, delicate and intriguing.
