- Depiction: Pascal van der Graaf’s “E. Bernini” employs origami-inspired techniques to transform the canvas into sculptural folds, paying homage to Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the Baroque master of dynamic drapery. The creases in the artwork echo the flowing garments in Bernini’s sculptures, capturing the movement of light and the tension of form. Using enamel and cyanoacrylate, the artist fixes the folds into place, as if freezing a moment of motion. The iridescent gold, copper, and green-blue hues shift with the light, making the work appear both soft and structured, existing between painting and sculpture. This piece is not only a contemporary reinterpretation of classical sculptural language but also an exploration of light, form, and structure, where folds and reflections capture the fleeting essence of time.
