- Depiction: The artist Eiko Tanaka typically starts with photographic images and crosses the boundaries of collage, printmaking (lithography), and painting in her creative process. This is because she seeks to explore uncertain starting points that can move her emotions and gain insight into the sense of dissonance and its boundaries that emerge when photographs are compressed into two-dimensional collages. When creating collages based on photographs, she first disassembles the assembled colored paper components and reconfigures them. After removing unnecessary elements, she compresses and fixes the colored surfaces of the paper using acrylic paint or a press. Tanaka believes this is a way of capturing space (the world) again through color and shape, which is what she calls an "abstracting" process.
