Born in 1983 in Miaoli County, Taiwan, You Lan pursued advanced studies at the Nanjing University of the Arts, specializing in calligraphy. Beginning with calligraphy and seal carving, You later transitioned to ink painting, creating works that embody the classical elegance of traditional brushwork while introducing a unique, innovative perspective.
Drawing inspiration from the Yuan dynasty’s Four Masters, You resonates deeply with the serene and distant style of Ni Zan. This influence is complemented by an exploration of Huang Binhong’s layered and rich ink techniques. In the interplay of void and solidity, stillness and movement, You transforms abstract notions of time into towering landscapes, crafting a contemporary vision of mountain and river scenes imbued with innocence and charm.
