Artist Introduction
LEE Jaeyual graduated from the Graduate School of Chung-Ang University with a major in Korean Painting and has continuously reinterpreted elements of traditional landscape painting with a contemporary sensibility. His representative series, Sansoomong (Mountain and Water Dreams), depicts unique landscapes that blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy, portraying mystical creatures and transcendent spaces within nature. By blending Eastern and Western techniques, he maintains the essence of traditional landscape painting while incorporating modern and expressive elements.
His works stand out for their innovative use of jangji (Korean paper) and acrylic, creating a harmonious interplay of floating life forms and dreamlike colors that offer a new visual experience. In particular, Sansoomong views nature not merely as a backdrop but as a living entity, depicting trees, rocks, and clouds as breathing, sentient beings. Inspired by surreal moments encountered in reality, his work embodies a world that is free and beyond conventional boundaries.
His works are part of the collection at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Art Bank, and he continues to gain recognition not only in Korea but also at international art fairs.
